Summary
This study found that e-cigarette vapor contains harmful chemicals, including diacetyl, methylglyoxal, acetaldehyde, and propionaldehyde, which can have negative impacts on human health. The study also notes that there are currently no health-based standards for diacetyl inhalation for the general public, and more studies are needed to establish safe levels of exposure to these chemicals for human individuals. additionally, the study highlights that ingredient labels on e-cigarette packages do not reveal the full potential of respiratory toxicants that users may be inhaling, including secondary compounds formed from e-cigarette ingredients during smoking.
