Summary

The authors of the Felicione (2019) study considered including interaction variables such as nicotine concentration x wattage, nicotine use/day, and nicotine use/week in their model to investigate the relationship between electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) use and pulmonary symptoms. however, these interaction variables had high levels of skew and kurtosis, were less normally distributed than the original variables, and were not significantly correlated with dependence. additionally, the specific relationship between nicotine concentration and wattage in the context of e-cigarette use is not well-characterized. as a result, the original variables were determined to be more appropriate for the model. Juul use was also considered as a variable, but it was not significantly associated with pulmonary symptoms. Ultimately, log-transformed age was used in the model due to improved skew and kurtosis.
