Summary

29 studies were included in a review evaluating the relationship between electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) flavors and smoking cessation outcomes. Of these studies, 16 used cross-sectional designs and 13 utilized longitudinal designs. The studies reported various outcomes, with some suggesting that non-tobacco and non-menthol flavors were significantly associated with increased cessation success compared to tobacco flavors. however, other studies found no significant differences in crude odds of cessation success by the ENDS flavor group. among the 12 longitudinal studies, nine were conducted in the US, with five using Population assessment of Tobacco and health (PaTh) data, three using online consumer surveys, one employing an in-person survey, and two conducted as clinical trials in the UK. Overall, the findings are mixed and further research is needed to establish a clear relationship between ENDS flavors and smoking cessation outcomes.
