Summary

Introduction:
This article presents the findings of a study on the prevalence and factors associated with cessation of e-cigarette use among adolescents in Malaysia. The study is based on data from the Tobacco and E-Cigarette Survey among Malaysian adolescent (TECMa) in 2016.

Key Points:

* Nearly half of the adolescents who had ever used e-cigarettes had ceased using them.
* adolescents were more likely to quit e-cigarettes if they could not afford them, were older (aged 13 or above), and believed that their e-cigarettes did not contain nicotine.
* Female adolescents and those who had never smoked conventional cigarettes were also more likely to quit e-cigarettes.
* The study used a complex sampling design and multiple logistic regression analysis to identify the associated factors for cessation of e-cigarette use.

Main Message:
The study highlights the importance of addressing affordability, age, and nicotine content in efforts to reduce e-cigarette use among adolescents. The findings suggest that increasing the price of e-cigarettes and providing information about the dangers of nicotine addiction may be effective strategies for reducing e-cigarette use among this population. additionally, the study emphasizes the need for further research on the role of e-cigarettes in tobacco control and the potential impact of regulations on e-cigarette use. Overall, the study provides valuable insights for policymakers and regulators seeking to address the growing trend of e-cigarette use among adolescents.
