Summary

Introduction:
This text is a summary of a scientific study examining the impact of smoking and vaping on weight gain and glycaemia in rats. The study also investigates the effects of cessation of smoking and vaping on weight gain and glycaemia. The study aims to provide a better understanding of the health effects of smoking and vaping, specifically in relation to weight management and blood sugar control.

Key Points:

* The study involved three groups of rats: one group was exposed to vapour from an electronic cigarette, another group was exposed to smoke from traditional cigarettes, and the third group was a control group with no nicotine exposure.
* The rats were exposed to nicotine for six weeks, and their weight and blood glucose levels were measured throughout the study period and after nicotine exposure cessation.
* The results showed that rats exposed to both smoking and vaping had similar weight gain during the six-week exposure period, while the control group had a significantly higher weight gain.
* however, two weeks after nicotine exposure cessation, rats in the smoking group gained more weight than those in the vaping and control groups.
* Blood glucose levels were higher in the smoking group compared to the vaping and control groups 24 hours after last nicotine exposure and two weeks after nicotine exposure cessation.
* In the vaping group, glycaemia was insignificantly higher than in the control group after six weeks of nicotine exposure, but returned to the same level as the control group after two weeks without e-cigarette exposure.
* The study suggests that the impact of vaping on weight gain is similar to smoking, but after vaping cessation, weight gain is lower and comparable to nicotine nonusers.

Main Message:
The study provides evidence that vaping may be a healthier alternative to traditional cigarettes for people addicted to nicotine, at least in terms of weight gain. The effects of vaping on weight increase are similar to smoking, but after vaping cessation, weight gain is lower and comparable to nicotine nonusers. Therefore, switching to e-cigarettes prior to complete quitting may be useful for individuals afraid of weight gain. however, more studies are needed to explain the differences observed in the effects of conventional and electronic cigarettes, particularly in relation to blood glucose control.
