Introduction:
This document presents the study examining the relationship between advertising exposure and e-cigarette use among women of childbearing age. The study aims to identify the association between advertising exposure and use of flavored or menthol e-cigarette products among e-cigarette ever users. The findings of this study can provide insights into the effects of advertising exposure on e-cigarette use and the use of flavored e-cigarettes among women of childbearing age.
Key Points:
• The study used a cross-sectional survey design with a sample of 194 women aged 18-45 years old.
• The study found that younger age, white non-Hispanic race, and greater exposure to e-cigarette advertising were associated with a higher likelihood of ever using e-cigarettes.
• Pregnancy was not significantly associated with ever use of e-cigarettes.
• Younger age was associated with use of flavored e-cigarettes.
• Among e-cigarette users, those who used flavored products were more likely to have seen advertisements or information about e-cigarettes on social media.
• The study found that flavoring in e-cigarettes contains diacetyl or other chemicals associated with severe lung damage.
• The study suggests that e-cigarette companies should be regulated to prevent targeting youth and women of childbearing age.
Main Message:
The study highlights the significant relationship between advertising exposure and e-cigarette use among women of childbearing age, particularly the use of flavored e-cigarettes. The findings emphasize the importance of regulating e-cigarette companies to prevent targeting youth and women of childbearing age. The use of e-cigarettes and flavored products can pose serious health risks, and regulations should be in place to protect public health.
